Project Completion: Kwik Star Ankeny, IA
GRIMES, IA – Septagon Construction Company, a company providing design-build, general contracting and construction management services to clients in Missouri and Iowa, is very excited to announce the completion of our first Kwik Star project, located at 202 SE Oralabor Road in Ankeny, IA. A ribbon-cutting will be held on August 22, 2019, at 12 p.m. to celebrate the opening of the new convenience store.
Kwik Trip originated in La Crosse, Wisconsin and has stores throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa. Kwik Trip has over 600 locations and they are called Kwik Star in Iowa to avoid confusion with other convenience chains in the state. This project was one of the first new Kwik Star in Iowa to debut their new line of take-home meals and fried foods.
This project took 19 weeks to complete and Septagon’s ability to maintain a schedule and deliver on time was in full display. During construction, we found unforeseen issues in the soil which required amending it. We also had to replace a storm drain that was buried around 100 years ago by the Army Corp of Engineers. Making the drain replacement even more difficult was the fact that it was buried 12’ deep on the edge of the busiest road in Ankeny, IA. Neither issue impacted the schedule on the project but had the potential to set us behind weeks. Septagon was also given seven different large change orders on the fly and was able to implement each without delay.
Our Project Manager, Tom Henry, was able to use his C-store knowledge and management skills which allowed Septagon to deliver the store on time. Tom utilized his ability to make sound decisions and problem solve when time was of the essence. Thank you to Tom, and all of our Septagon team members who made this project a success! Septagon is looking forward to completing more projects with Kwik Star in the future!
